dredd page 3 by Neil-Googe dredd page 3 by Neil-Googe
ok so heres the third page of the dredd 10 pager i worked on...

bad story telling, bad perspective, bad bikes... all in all... not one of my better pages thats for sure... i dont know if it was an off day, or that particular page didnt inspire me...

whatever it was it resulted in this...

to be honest, i wouldnt even post it, but as i'm going to put up the whole ten pager it would be silly to miss page 3 because i dont like it... so you're stuck with it :)

Believe me, there is absolutely no need to apologise for this - it is gorgeous. I love the bikes!

If this is your least favourite, I can't wait to see the rest. Well done!

Your tech work is killer.

I wouldn't have spotted the perspective error etc. awesome bikes...quite like the style of the truck cab too.
Drawing characters and being able to keep them consistant through even one page is a skill I am some what far from mastering! even being able to draw a character twice is a bit of a challenge!

trust me, that is a skill some people never master... im far from doing it... if i over characterise a character its easier, but still not guaranteed. the female character in dredd (judge nova) is a good example, as was officer lindo in tranquility and to be honest most of the tranquility cast... minus a few, i made a little too similar and so people got confused with some of the characters

when it comes to more realistic people... i then struggle with the subtle differences that make up the real face... most people, as do i, then relying on defining features in stead... hair styles, hair color, race things like that (and obviously costumes, but once someone is out of a costume)... concentrate on mastering those and you will have a varied and recognisable cast... some people say thats cheating, i dont agree its working within the bounds of your abilities while you artistic talent has time to grow.

i'll be going for a more characterised style with jules and steve huge as its a style i'm most comfortable with and i want to do the best i can. i've struggled a lot on wildcats, trying to do something a little more realistic and it's slowed down the work flow, to a halt at times, and for the sake of trying to do something i'm not comfortable with... i wont do it again

it's exactly what a previous journal entry was about, i'll be myself from now on and hope people like it :)
animBoi Featured By Owner Jun 24, 2008 I think about I do often get stuck up on the "face" of a character, trying to keep that as consistant as possible - never thought of an attribute i.e the hair etc.
Perhaps next time I try I'll recall those few word's of wisdom. ;)

I can't see much wrong with it, but then I'm not a master artist like yourself.
To be honest, I've always wanted to see a crossover between Warhammer 40,000 and Judge Dredd, but the idea was turned down because the worlds are too similar.

how come your 'Bad Pages' still blow my 'good pages' out of the water?!

This is still pretty awesome.
