bat supe by Neil-Googe bat supe by Neil-Googe
another commission done for the same guy as the spider man kraven piece...

i was really pleased with this, as you may have noticed im not keen on using too much black in my work, but seeing as i didnt draw out the bats cape at all first, and just inked it straight on, i was really pleased with the effect. so i'll be adding more blacks from now on...

i was also pleased with the design on batman and especially the collapsable batarang... im a stickler for design, and i like to design things that at least look like they might function (i got that from an interview i read with matsumane shirow when i was a kid)

never really been interested in drawing batman... im more of a robin kinda guy (will post my robin designs for the pitch im working on soon..... ooooohhhhh im excited) but after drawing this batman, i wouldn't mind giving it a crack now :)

I like your take on Batman, he looks more commando like with the loose pants...
Great drawing!

Man, really like this piece! You're one of the few artists in this world who really shows how Superman should be so much bigger than Batman. haha ;]

Awsome! I didn't see your Robin design, did you post it?
Any chance you'd do a Nightwing design? Just to see your take on him.

i never thought the Superman comics were particularly well drawn, but if you had worked on them i would travel back in time purchase/steal them all!! yeah!

this is how Bats and Sups should be drawn ALL THE TIME!!! i just love Superman here. in a strictly hetrosexual way. maybe. :|

Good One!!
I love how they look.
I draw this two litle guys, but in contradiction with you, I love Batman and
I hate Superman...But with the Shirow`s opinion are 100% agree!!
Take a look if you want on my PinUp, I try to do it at Jim Lee`s style.

There's nothing like a great redesign. You brought Batman back down to Earth, something like Batman Begins did, but in a different direction altogether. It'd be interesting to see what you could do with that big cape, keeping in line with the practical nature of the rest of the gear you drew. Too often, I think, it's just used as a big, black prop, but it looks like you could really do something useful with it.

Of course I'm not DC, so they might just relegate the ideas to an "Elseworlds" kind of thing, but I could see it working in a non-urban setting. Some big story that takes him way out of Gotham, out of his "mythical" typecast, puts him more on even ground with his prey... Makes him human, instead of just another "super hero". But in a deeper way than some others have done. I've found it superficial in most of the stories I've seen where they try to break him down, show his seams. The scars all over his body become more like a stereotype than an actual character trait; another one of his masks that writers fall back on too readily. Maybe something that gets his detective juices flowing, something his big computers can't help with. Something in the Bayou, maybe... But no, that's well overdone already.

The simple emblem on his chest, instead of the black-on-yellow oval crest, works well here, but then I always prefered it that way.

I can do without Superman altogether, but that's a striking take on Bats, man. Very modern, a little "street" so to speak, moving away from the old uber-spandex that was the norm in hero books for far too long. Gimme some folds! I love it. He's even got a zipper so he can drop a whizz in one of those dark alleys he's always in.

It'd be a sweet challenge writing a story around that look right there. The whole mood would have to be subtly skewed away from the norm, but I think that's becoming more common in comics these days. Thank God, I say!

oh no.... i've given his cape a practical use... and its not a handglider either :) think chinese martial arts.... those fellas have some big robes... and also have so rather strange weapons based around long lengths of rope....

when i post the full redesigns, i'm also posting a full spec on the equipment.... some real hi tech stuff in the suit and some real lo tech stuff :)

i can do without supes too...but was a commission, what can you do :)

i'm gonna try and incorporate my new batman, robin and nightwing in to the pitch im working on... but if they want it and ant to keep it in the current universe... i doubt it will happen

oh well... was fun to do :)

Yessssssssssssss. I knew you had ideas behind it. Those long streamers around his feet couldn't have been for nothing.

I know since the DD you're getting swamped with messages and comments, but I'd like to talk to you in private about this if it's not a problem.

ask me about what in private... the bat gear stuff... :)

all will be explained in full in the post i promise, but if you have any questions feel free... you might think of something i haven't which is always good :)

and i agree... a cape on the likes of batman with no good reason is silly.... realistically he wouldn't have one as it would get in the way...

hence why mine also has a quick release if needed :)
